Ecuador Mí País (EMiP) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-governmental organization, based in Washington DC, USA, was born in August 2005 as an initiative of young Ecuadorian professionals living in the Washington D.C. area:
“We felt a moral imperative and a deep desire to contribute to the social and economic development of their country through promoting and supportting education of children whose families live under the poverty line in Ecuador.”
(From Original Mission Statement from 2006-2010.)
What started with four original members, through much hard work, grew to 400 members around the USA. The 2nd Board was elected in 2010 to 2014. Their main work was raising funds to give scholarships to children in three specific places in Ecuador: children attending Casa Victoria, Quito; children in Fe y Alegría school, Cuenca, Ecuador; and children at Muchacho Trabajador, Manta and Esmeraldas, Ecuador. By 2012, the “young Ecuadorian professionals”, started marrying, having children, focusing on their careers, many, returning to Ecuador, leaving just a few active members and funds. But, by then, they had several accomplishments. Three of them are shown here, from their facebook page.
Passing the Batton, we Continue…
In 2014, a new set of like-minded friends joined in and a wider perspective is being given by the newly elected Board. EmiP would be a vehicle for a broader group of people, not only made up of “young Ecuadorian professionals”, but whoever wished to donate and participate in partenering with NGOs who work directly with children and their education.
The vision is still the same, but we have an additional aspiration:
“To offer a space to people from all over the world, who have willing hearts and open hands, where they can make
contributions and find volunteer opportunities to continue serving ecuadorian children and their education “
EMiP will provide statistics, reports, and will verify Project Execution, all this, as part of the accountability agreement with the NGOs partnered. This will be written up periodically througout the year and published on this site.
